Having won the football world cup twice, Argentina is one of the most successful teams of all times. Except France, Argentina is the only team who holds the World Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the Olympic tournament which are the three most recognized men’s title by FIFA. Argentina has also been an ace team in their continental championship, Copa América.

Diego Maradona who captained the 1986 world cup winning Argentinean side is the team coach. Liverpool’s defensive midfielder, Javier Mascherano is leading the side in 2010 World cup. Maradona have enough star power to choose from, starting with the Barcelona striker Lionel Messi who is considered as the best player of the current generation. After watching Messi’s game Maradona had announced him as his successor. Adding to this list the names of Diego Milito, Carlos Tevez Sergio, Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain, Maradona have considerable firepower in his arsenal.

With Lionel Messi, Carlos Tévez, Sergio Agüero and Gonzalo Higuain, Maradona will have a hard time to select the forward players. In midfield Javier Mascherano, Ángel di María and Mario Bolatti had been consistent with their performance. An area of concern for the Coach would be his goal keeping and the fullback players, who have comparatively less experience then the rest of the side. Argentina’s side is quite capable but it remains to be seen how Maradona manages the team combination to achieve the cup as his recent selections have raised many questions. In world cup qualifying matches the team was inconsistent, especially against Bolivia who thrashed Argentina with the score of 6-1. It remains to be seen how well does the Maradona’s boys perform in the world cup.
