Fylkir is an Icelandic football club based in the eastern part of the country’s capital Reykjavik. They currently feature in the Icelandic top flight.

Fylkir were established on May 28,1967 as KSA and featured in a national competition in Iceland only in 1972. They finished second in Icelandic 3 division that year. They played in that division for the next five tears and gained promotion to Division 2 only in 1977.

Fylkir played in Division 2 for the following six years and between 1984 and 1988 went to and fro the second and third division in Iceland. In 1989 they reached the first division for the first time in their history but suffered relegation after only one year in the Icelandic top flight.

Fylkir then returned to the first division in 1993 but were relegated again after just one season. The same thing occurred in 1996 too and regained their top flight status in 1999. In 2000, though, Fylkir actually finished second in the league.

Fylkir won the Icelandic Cup for the first time in their history in 2001 and finished fifth in the Premier League. They finished second in the league in 2002 and won the Cup competition again that year. Fylkir have been doing moderately well since then in the league except a few hiccups.

Fylkir play their home matches at the Fylkisvollur stadium that can accommodate 4,000 spectators. They bear the nickname “Fylkismenn”.
