FC Universitatea Craiova is a Romanian football club based in the city of Craiova. They currently feature in the Romanian first division, the Liga I and are one of the most famous teams of Romania.
FC Universitatea Craiova were established in 1948 by a group of students and professors. They won the national championship for the first time in their history in 1974 and went onto win the league on three further occasions, in 1980,1981 and 1991.
Craiova won the Romanian Cup for the first time in their history in 1977 and have won it a total of six times, the last Cup triumph coming in 1993. In 1981 they reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup and two years later fetaured in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
FC Universitatea Craiova play their home matches at the Ion Oblemenco stadium that can accommodate 27,915 spectators. They bear the nicknames “Blue Lions” and “The Champions of a Great Love”.

Since 1991 though, Craiova have been on the slide down the hill. They had transgressed to a mid-table side and then at the end of the 2004-2005 season got relegated to the second division but bounced back immediately.
