Y.R. K.V. Mechelen is a Belgian club based in Mechelen in Antwerp province. They currently feature in the Belgian first division.

Mechelen were established in 1904, a few montsh after city rivals KRC Mechelen were formed. They won their first league championship in 1943 ad followed it up with league triumphs in 1946 and 1948.

Mechelen went on a decline after that but managed to finish third in the league in 1954. Two years later they suffered relegation to the second division. In the 1960s and 1970s Mechelen became a yo-yo club but recovered soemwhat in the 1980s, winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1988 (they are now the last Belgian team to have a European trophy).

Mechelen, thouh, couldn’t sustain their success and went on a slide down the hill. They recovered in the 2000s and are now playing in the Belgian top flight.

Mechelen play their home matches at the Veolia Stadium Achter de Kazerne that can accommodate 14,145 spectators. They bear the nicknames The Yellow Reds,cMalinois, Malinwa and De Kakkers.
