Vitoria Sport Clube is a Portuguese football club based in Guimaraes, 40 kilometres northeast of Porto. They currently feature in the Portuguese Liga. They are usually called Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Vitoria were established in 1922. They have never won the Portuguese championship or the Portuguese Cup but are one of the most respected clubs in Portugal. They have been in the top flight for the last few decades but were struggling to sustain their top flight status in the early 2000s. However they recovered soon and even played in the UEFA Cup.
But at the end of the 2005-2006 season Vitoria dropped down to the second tier of Portuguese football and gained promotion to the first division at the end of the 2006-2007 season. BAck in the Portuguese Liga, Vitoria finished third in the league in the 2007-2008 season.Vitoria play their home matches at the Estadio D. Alfonso Henriques Guimaraes that can accomdate 30,165 spectators. They bear the nicknames “The White Angels”.
