A traditional Uruguayan club, Club Nacional de Football was founded in 1899, in Montevideo. Winner of the Copa Libertadores, three times, the club is also known for its spectacular victories in the International Cup, also thrice. Formed when Montevideo Football Club and Uruguay Athletic entered an alliance, the team currently plays in the First Division of the Uruguayan football league. The club also supports other sports, though football is their most successful venture.Parque Central the home stadium of the club, with a seating capacity of 20,000 was built in 1900. Recently though the team has been sharing Estadio Centenario with Penarol, as all the derbies and high risk matches are played here. Parque Central was renovated in 2005, and its seating capacity was increased to 30,000. This stadium if of particular note as the first match of the FIFA World Cup was played in this stadium in 1930.

This highly successful team has bagged the Primera Division championship title an impressive 30 times, just in the professional era. And apart from the three victories at Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup, the team has also won the Copa Interamericana two times as well as the Recopa Sudamericana once. Some famous former players include Julio Cesar Morales, Anibal Paz, Milton Nunez and Guillermo Escalada.
