Nery Alberto Castillo Confalonieri is a professional football player from Mexico, who was born on June 13, 1984 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Castillo is best known for being a winger, attacking midfielder, and striker of Shakhtar Donetsk. However, he is currently in loan to play for the Major League Soccer Club, Chicago Fire.
Castillo’s career as a professional football player started when he was still 16 years old when he played for Olympiacos, a club in Greece. However, he did play as a youth football player from 1999 to 2000 for Danubio, a Uruguayan club.
It can be said that Castillo’s career was well molded during his time with Olympiacos. He was signed by the club in 2000, and he departed from the club in 2007, joining his second club Shakhtar Donetsk. While at Olympiacos, Castillo was able to make 105 appearances and score 30 goals. He did, however, start off strong but his career went on a downward spiral at first especially with the transfer of Rivaldo into the lineup. Castillo did manage to change his attitude after some time, and soon he was back on top coming second to Rivaldo. So far, since he was signed with Shakhtar Donetsk, he has been loaned to Manchester City, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, and currently Chicago Fire.
Castillo is also a member of the Mexican national team since 2007. He made his debut as an international player for Mexico during a game in the 2007 Copa America held on June 2007. Since he joined the team, he has made 21 caps and scored 6 goals for the country.
