Francisco de Paula Bazan Landi is a professional footballer from Peru who plays as a goalkeeper. Bazan began his career at the youth academy of Universitario de Deportes. He broke into the first team at the age of 16, although for the next three seasons, he was primarily on the substitute’s bench or in the reserve team.
Bazan decided to move, on loan, to Juan Aurich, in 1999, and for two seasons, warming the benches on that team. In 2001, he moved, again on loan, to Deportivo Wanka. Bazan was recalled to team in the same season and stayed on with Universitario de Deportes for three seasons, playing 25 games during the period.
He moved to Pontevedra CF in 2004, getting a regular starting spot to prove his mettle. And prove he did, as he got picked up by Alianza Atletico Sullana in 2006. However, Bazan just played 13 games at Sullana before he moved to Europe to play with Anorthosis Famagusta in Greece.
Bazan played 29 games that season, in Greece, before moving to Olympiakos Nicosia for another season of regular football. 24 games later, Bazan found himself out of favour with the team management and decided to return to Peru to join Cienciano in 2008. Barely getting 8 games as the second choice keeper at the club, Bazan moved back to Universitario de Deportes in 2009, again taking up the back-up keeper’s role.
At the international level, Bazan was called up to the national team in 2005 but was kept on the bench and failed to win a single cap.
Bazan won the 1999 and 2009 Peruvian league titles during his two stints with Universitario de Deportes, his only successful seasons so far.
