Luis Antonio Marin Murillo is a professional football player from Costa Rica, and former captain of Costa Rica’s national team. Born on August 10, 1974 in La Union de Cartago, Costa Rica, and he plays a defender in football, and was a part of the national squad when Costa Rica participated in the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and 2006. He ranks second for most appearances for the national team of Costa Rica with 130 caps and 5 goals all throughout.
It was in the 18th of November 2009 that Luis Marin played his very last game, which was against Uruguay. The said match ended with a 1-1 tie, which meant that Costa Rica would not be able to join in the 2010 World Cup. Marin has a number of nicknames, but he is best known as “Superman” in Israel, and “Topoyillo” in Costa Rica.
Marin has played for a number of clubs, and these include AD Carmelita, LD Alajuelense, USAC FC, River Plate, and Maccabi. Currently, he is still with LD Alajuelense. In addition to his appearances in the World Cup, Marin has also won some awards such as the Costa Rican Championship six times, Copa Inerclubes UNCAF three times, CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, and others. As an individual, he has been declared as the Best Foreign Player of the Year by the Israeli Premier League. Marin stands to make more caps in the coming years, and perhaps even earn more merits and awards for his participation in the world of football.
