Diego Lopez Rodríguez is a Spanish football player who currently features for the Spanish and European giants Real Madrid. He plays as a goalkeeper.
Lopez is actually a graduate of the famous Real Madrid youth academy and was promoted to the first team at the start of the 2005-2006 season. He stayed at the Bernabeu until the end of the 2006-2007 campaign and was the second choice Real Madrid custodian behind Iker Casillas and played just 2 matches in La Liga.
In the summer of 2007, Villarreal signed Diego Lopez for 4 million pounds and he went onto establish himself as a very reliant and world class custodian for the Yellow Submarine. He was part of the great Villarreal side that challenge Barcelona and Madrid for La Liga honours.
Then in 2012 Lopez joined Sevilla, having played in 171 league matches for Villarreal in five years. He signed a five-year contract for a reported fee of €3.5 million and had to fight with Andres Palop in the first half of the 2012-13 campaign. In January 2013 Madrid came calling and signed Lopez for €3.5 million on a contract running until June 2017 following the injury to Iker Casillas.
Lopez has since established himself as the first choice at the Santiago Bernabeu and is now a firm contender for the number one spot between the posts.
