Christian Abbiati is an Italian football player who currently features for the Italian and European giants AC Milan. He plays as a goalkeeper and is rated as one of the best custodians in the world.
Abbiati began his career at the age of 13 for Trezzano and Assago, he moved to Corsico and in 1996 secured a move to Monza. He signed for AC Milan in the Italian Serie A in 1999 and was the first choice custodian for the Milanese giants until 2002.
Thereafter he lost his place to Dida in the Milan goal and was on move on loans to a plethora of clubs. He was sent on loan to Juventus and Torino for two successive seasons and then at Atletico Madrid.
However, since Dida’s departure from Milan, he became the first-choice for Milan and has now made more than 220 Serie A appearances.
Abbiati was part of the Italy team at Euro 2000 as a third-choice goalkeeper. He did not make a single appearance in the competition and made his debut for the Azzurri on April 30, 2003 in a 2-1 victory over Switzerland.
