Mauricio Martin Romero is a professional footballer from Argentina who plays as a holding midfielder. Known for his leadership abilities, Romero began playing at the professional level in Argentina with Club Atletico Lanus. Romero was never known for his goal scoring abilities and has been the main-stay in defense, breaking up attacks with aplomb.
He played almost 120 games for Atletico Lanus, scoring 10 times, before moving to Mexico in 2007, to play for Monarcas Morelia. Since his arrival at Morelia, Romero has been a permanent fixture in the team and was also named as the team captain. Since his arrival, Romero has been a part of 69 games for his club, scoring 9 times.
At the international level, the likes of Juan Sebastian Veron and Javier Mascherano have kept Romero out of contention and despite being part of the Argentine Under-20 squad at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championships; Romero has failed to make an impact big enough to deserve a call-up to the Argentine National Squad.
