Daniel Peter “Danny” Simpson is an English football player who currently features for the Premier League club Newcastle United. He plays as a defender.

Simpson is a product of the Manchester United youth system and rose through the ranks into the reserve squad in 2005. In 2006 he was sent on loan to Man United’s Belgian feeder club Royal Antwerp for experience and then in 2007 he was on loan to Sunderland. In 2008 Simpson played on loan for Ipswich Town.

Simpson signed a contract with Manchester United in August 2007 that would keep him at the club until 2010. He made his competitive debut for Man United in September 2007 in a 2-0 Carling Cup defeat to Coventry City and made his Premier League debut in October 2007 against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford.

However, Simpson was soon on his way of Old Trafford, playing on loan first at Blackburn Rovers in 2008-09 and at Newcastle the first half of the following season. He impressed at St James’ Park and was signed on a permanent contract in January 2010.

Since then Simpson has established himself as an integral part of the Magpies’ team, making over 100 league appearances in the process.
