A football goalkeeper from Brazil, Fabio Deivison Lopes Maciel, began his professional career in 1997, with Uniao Bandeirante F. C. The very next season he moved to Atletico Paranaense, where once again he remained for only one season. He spent the 1999-2000 season with Cruzeiro F.C., after which he moved to Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama and remained there till 2004, after which he returned to his current club, Cruziero E.C. He has made over 170 appearances with the club, so far.
Maciel has also had the opportunity to play for the Brazilian national team, more than once. He was called up in 2006, for friendly’s, though he did not make any match appearances. Maciel was also a part of the national team during matches against Wales and Argentina, in 2006 itself, though he once again did not make any appearances in the matches.
Apart from this, Maciel has also been a part of the winning squad in the Copa do Brasil, the Copa Mercosur and the Campeonato Brasileiro, all in 2000. Maciel also has two state championship titles under his belt, the Campeonato Mineiro and the Campeonato Carioca. Some international titles he has won include the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, as well as the Under-17 South American Youth Championship, in 1997. The 2004 Copa America is another international title he won for his country.
In 2007, the former half of the season was not a good one for Maciel, who was plagued by bad form and several injuries. After a break of three months he returned to the team and regained his starter status, showing consistent improvement. Even though there have been some rumors about Maciel’s move to Arsenal, nothing has been confirmed as yet. Stating that he was prepared for the jump into European football, some reports have stated that Maciel has in fact signed with Valencia CF, and will be a replacement for Timo Hildebrand.
