An Argentine footballer from La Plata, Agustin Alayes, began his professional football career with Estudiantes in 1997. He remained with the club till 2002, making 58 league appearances and scoring only a single goal. In 2000, Alayes moved out of his home town to join Quilmes Atletico Club, where he remained for five years. He made over 100 league appearances with the team, scoring a total of 22 goals.

In 2005, Alayes returned to his former and present club, Estudiantes, with whom he had won the Apertura 2006 title, the highlight of his career so far. In fact, Alayes was played in the deciding match for the win, against Boca Juniors, held on the 13th of December, 2006. Noted for his five crucial and somewhat remarkable goals, Alayes had been compared to Jose Luis Brown, Estudiantes legend, by sports diary Ole.

Currently playing as defender with Estudiantes, Alayes has made over 100 appearances with the team on his return, scoring over 10 goals.
