Francisco Jose Rodrigues da Costa Junior, commonly known as Costinha, is a former Portuguese international football player who currently features for the Italian Serie A club Atalanta. He plays as a defensive midfielder and is known for his tackling skills and positioning sense.
Costinha commenced his professional club football career at Oriental in 1993 and played for them for two seasons. He then moved to AD Machico in 1995 and after one seaon signed for CD Nacional.
In 1997 Costinha moved to French club AS Monaco and played for them for four seasons, scoring 3 goals in 84 league matches.

In 2001 Costinha moved to Portuguese giants FC Porto and won the Portuguese league twice in a row in 2003 and 2004 and also won the UEFA Champions League in the 2003-2004 season. He was a hugely significant player for Porto during his time there, scoring 13 goals in 108 league matches.
In 2005 Costinha moved to Dynamo Moscow and after one season there moved to Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
In 2007 he signed for Italian side Atalanta.
Costinha made his international debut for Portugal in 1998 and featured in 53 international matches for his nation, scoring two goals. His debut for Portugal was against Slovakia in a Euro 2000 qualifer on October 14,1998. He played for his nation at Euro 2004 and at the 2006 Germany World Cup finals. Costinha last played for his nation in 2006.
