Andres Iniesta Lujan is a Spain international football player currently featuring for the Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona. Iniesta is a product of Barcelona’s youth academy and is generally deployed in an attacking midfield position.
Iniesta was actually born in the Basque city of Albacete and was spotted by Barcelona scouts when he was just 12 years of age. He was quickly drafted into the Barcelona youth system and rose through the ranks and made his debut for the senior side on October 29, 2002 against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
Iniesta secured a starting line-up spot for himself from the 2004-2005 season onwards under coach Frank Rijkaard and has progressed to become one of the best midfielders in the world. Iniesta’s ball possession is said to be superior to any other player in La Liga, and his strength and tackles too have earned him massive accolade.
Iniesta established himself as a key figure in the team since the appointment of Pep Guardiola as the team’s coach in the summer 2008, helping Barca win three successive Primera Division titles and two Champions League trophies in three years. He also helped the Catalan giants win the La Liga title in 2013.
Iniesta is also a regular for the Spanish national side. He played for Spain in the 2006 Germany World Cup and won Euro 2008, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with his nation.
