Stephen James Ireland is a young Republic of Ireland football player who currently features for the English Premier League side Manchester City. He is a midfielder.
Stephen Ireland developed at the youth academy of Manchester City and made his debut for the senior side in 2005. His flexibility and quick feet quickly made him a favourite at Man City and Ireland has now become a regular at the City of Manchester Stadium. In his first two Premiership seasons, Stephen Ireland has made almost 100 league appearances.
Stephen Ireland made his international debut for Republic of Ireland in 2006 and played for the national side until 2008, scoring 4 goals in 6 matches. In September Ireland was embroiled in a controversy when he lied just days prior to Republic of Ireland’s match against the Czech Republic to go and visit his girlfriend who had a miscarriage. Ireland has since not featured for then national side.
