Eka Basunga Lokonda “Emile” Mpenza is a Belgian international football player who is currently a free agent. He is a striker and is now without a club after his contract with English Premier League club Manchester City expired in the summer of 2008.

Emile Mpenza made his start in professional club football for KV Kortrijk in 1995 and after one season moved to RE Mouscron and then to Belgian powerhouse Standard Liege. He scored 20 goals in 46 league matches for Liege and in 2000 moved to German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04, scoring 28 goals in 79 league fixtures.

Mpenza returned to Liege for the 2003-2004 season and was signed by German powerhouse SV Hamburg in 2004 for 2.5 million euros. He failed to impress at Hamburg and left the club for Al Rayyan after just one season signed for Manchester City on a one year deal at the start of the 2007-2008 season, playing 25 Premiership matches and scoring 5 goals.

Emile Mpenza made his international debut for Belgium in 1997 and has played 54 matches for his nation, scoring 17 goals. He played alongside his brother Mbo in the 1998 World Cup and in Euro 2000, but missed out on the World Cup in 2002 with a groin injury.
