An Argentine footballer from Santa Fe, Sebastian Alejandro Battaglia currently plays for Boca Juniors. In fact, Battaglia began his professional career with the reserve team for Boca Juniors, and played his first professional game in 1998. He remained with the club for five years and became invaluable to the team. In the 2003-04 season a Spanish club, Villarreal CF bought 50% of his contract in return for his services. Villarreal already had a number of former Boca players in its team, making the transition easy for Battaglia.
But he remained with the club only for one and a half seasons, never quite attaining the high form he had displayed with Boca. After his family started experiencing problems with adjusting in Spain, followed by an injury which had him sit out for 6 months, Battaglia decided to come back to Argentina. After some negotiations, he was taken back into Boca and soon regained his form, ending up as team captain. He further played in the Argentina national squad, which participated in the World Cup qualifiers, and was a starter for a friendly match against Qatar in 2005.
