Currently a goalkeeper for Boca Juniors, Maurico Ariel Caranta is an Argentine football player from Cordoba. Starting out with Instituto de Cordoba, Caranta began playing football professionally in 1999. Instrumental in Instituto winning the Primera B Apertura, Caranta remained with the team when they were promoted to the top division for the 2004-05 season. After nearly 139 league appearances with this club, Caranta moved to Santos Laguna, a Mexican club in 2005. He made 47 appearances with this club, following which in 2007 he returned to Argentina to join Boca Juniors.
Caranta’s was chosen as the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2007 Copa Libertadores. The same year, Caranta also participated in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup, where his team reached the finals only to lose the title to Italian giants A.C Milan. Caranta also played in the 2008 Recopa Sudamericana finals, against Arsenal de Sarandi, a match that Boca won 5-3.
