Marco Malago started his professional club football career at Italian side Venezia after graduating from the club’s youth academy. He played for them between 1995 and 1997 and then moved to Cosenza, where he scored twice in 52 league matches in two seasons.

Marco Malago then moved to Genoa in 1999 and played for them until 2003, scoring 6 goals in 102 league matches. He established himself as a strong and reliable defender at Genoa and was signed by Genoa in 2003 where he has gradually become a regular.
