Rafael Pereira da Silva, most commonly known as Rafael, is a young Brazilian football player who currently features for the English and European giants Manchester United. He is a versatile footballer who can feature as a right-sided midfielder as well as a right-back.
Rafael developed at the prestigious youth academy of Fluminense and along with his brother Fabio was spotted by Manchester United scouts. He joined Man United in January 2008 and was drafted into the first team for the Red Devils in the 2008-2009 season and made his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on the opening day of that campaign.
Rafael made his first start for Manchester United on September 23, 2008 against Middlesbrough in the third round of the League Cup and made his first start in Europe against Aalborg BK in the UEFA Champions League.
Since then Rafael has developed into a key player for United and has played for them in the Champions League as well. In July 2012 he signed a new four-year contract that would see him remain at Old Trafford until 2016. He has won the Premier League title three times so far – 2009, 2011 and 2013.
Rafael made his international debut for Brazil against Denmark on May 26, 2012 and played at the 2012 London Olympics for his country.
