Professional Career

He started his professional career in 1982 when he signed with Sportivo Luqueno. In 1984, he moved to play for Guarani, and while with the club, he helped the team win the 1984 Primera Division title.

From 1985 to 1991, he played for San Lorenzo and Real Zaragoza. In 1991, he signed with one of the most significant clubs in his career, Velez Sarsfield. While with Velez, he helped them win four Primera Division titles.

In 1996, he was named the Footballer of the Year of Argentina. He was also named that year’s South American Footballer of the Year.

From 2000 to 2002, Chilavert played for Strasbourg. Then from 2002-2003, he played for Penarol. His last season as a professional was the 2003-2004 season, he returned to playing for Velez.
