Alfonso Alves Martins Junior is a Brazilian football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Middlesbrough. He is an international player for Brazil and plays as a striker. Alves is known as a prolific striker.

Alfonso Alves began his professional club football for Atletico Mineiro in 2002 in Brazil in 1997 and in 2002 went to Orgryte in Gothenburg. He played there for two seasons and then played for Malmo from 2004 to 2006, scoring 29 goals in 55 league matches.

Alfonso Alves was signed by Dutch club SC Heerenveen in 2006 and he was a sensation for them in the Dutch domestic league as he scored a staggering 45 goals in 39 league fixtures.

Middlesbrough signed Alfonso Alves in January 2008 for 12.7 million pounds on a four-and-a-half-year contract and he replied the club’s faith with 6 goals in 12 Premiership matches in the second half of the 2007-2008 season.

Alfonso Alves made his international debut for Brazil in 2007 and has played 8 matches for his nation so far, scoring 1 goals. He featured for his nation at the 2007 Confederations Cup.
