Jonathan Simon Woodgate is a England international football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. He is a centre-back and is still regarded as one of the best in the world and the complete defender even though he has been rocked by years of injuries.

Jonathan Woodgate made his professional club debut for Leeds United in 1998 and after five stupendously successful years in which he played 104 English Premier League matches and scored 5 goals besides featuring successfully in the UEFA Champions League as well.

In January 2003, he was signed by Newcastle United for 9 million pounds and then in August 2004 he was signed by Real Madrid for 13.4 million pounds. But he was injured for most of his Real Madrid career and managed to make just 9 La Liga appearances.

Middlesbrough signed Woodgate in 2007 after he had spent the 2006-2007 season on loan.

In January 2008 after Woodgate had rediscovered his old stability, Spurs signed him for 7 million pounds.

Jonathan Woodgate made his England debut in 1999 but has played just 7 matches for his nation because of injury and because of the fact that England is blessed with top draw central defenders.
