Christopher Trimmel is a soccer player playing for 1. FC Union Berlin. He is the current captain of Union, leading the side to promotion to the German Bundesliga in 2018-19. He’s also been capped internationally by Austria.
History
Trimmel joined Rapid Vienna in his native Austria in 2008 after a few years with lower tier club ASK Horitschon. The midfielder-cum-right-back progressed quickly at Rapid, netting a hat-trick in his sixth game for the club. He became a regular at Rapid across five years in Austria’s Bundesliga, amassing more than 150 appearances and earning his maiden call-up for Austria in 2009.
In 2014, he left Rapid on a free transfer to join Union Berlin, who were at that time in Germany’s 2.Bundesliga. Trimmel established himself as a key part of the Union side, moving into a right-winger/right-back role. His set-pieces and assists became a major feature for Union, helping them to promotion in the 2018-19 season and he’s been able to carry that on in the top flight in 2019-20, steering his side away from relegation.
