Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa, commonly known as Alex, is a Brazilian football player who currently features for French giants Paris Saint-Germain. He plays as a central defender.

Alex commenced his professional football with Brazilian giants Santos in 2002 and in two seasons with the club scored 12 goals in 62 league matches.

In the summer of 2004 Chelsea came calling and signed Alex. But the player was unable to get a work permit required to play in the UK and so was loaned onto Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven immediately starting from the 2004-2005 season to the end of the 2006-2007 season.

Alex was a huge hit for PSV and became one of the best players in the squad. Nicknamed as The Tank during his time in the Netherlands, Alex played 84 league matches and scored 11 goals, winning the Dutch league titles in 2005,2006 and 2007.

Alex was recalled to the Chelsea in the summer of 2007 and played for the London side in the 2007-2008 season, making 26 league appearances and scoring 3 goals too.

Alex continued to be an important player for Chelsea, winning the Premier League in 2010 and the FA Cup in 2009 and 2010.

In January 2012 Paris Saint-Germain signed him from Chelsea for £4.2m and reunited with his former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti in Paris.

Alex made his international debut for Brazil in August, 2003 against Mexico and has played 12 matches so far for his nation. He won the Copa America 2007 with Brazil.
