A professional football player from Brazil, Marcio Gonzaga de Azevedo plays as a defender, specialising as a left-back. Marcio effectively began his playing career in 2004, when he was first noticed while playing for the Juventude youth team. In 2004, he also broke into the first team where he was part of the reserve team for a long time.
From 2004 to 2008, Marcio was barely a part of the first team although he was part of the squad that won the Campeonato do Interior Gaucho title in 2007. In 2008, he moved to Fortaleza in search of some regular playing time but that would be easier said than done. Marcio struggled for a first team place and, eventually, ended up as a mere squad member on the 2008 Campeonato Cearense title winning team.
Towards the end of the season, he moved to Atletico Paranaense where he slowly started establishing himself as a first team player. Throughout his time with Atletico, Marcio was a first team player and notched up over 88 appearances for the team, winning the 2009 Campeonato Paranaense title along th way.
