Carlos Alberto Alves Garcia is a professional football player playing for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga as a left winger. Also known as Carlitos, this Portuguese footballer was born on 6th September, 1982.
His professional career started in 2000 at Amora F.C club, at an early age of 17. Post two years, he moved to G.D. Estoril Praia, Lisbon neighbor, achieving promotion to the top division in his second year. He was later on signed by S.L. Benfica, when he was noticed at the 2004 UEFA European U-21 Football Championship in Germany against Portugal. He even helped Benfica team conquer their first league title in eleven years.
In January 2006, Carlos got loaned out to Vitória de Setúbal, making good impression in six months. By June, he returned to Benfica, though was immediately loaned out again to Swiss side, FC Sion, teaming up with João Manuel Pinto.
In July 2007, Carlitos got sold, though he stayed in the country, moving to FC Basel for a sum of 1.5 million euros. His official debut was on 23rd July, in a 1-0 victory over FC Zurich team at St. Jakob-Park. He scored the club’s 200th goal on 5fth December in the European competition. Carlitos was also an important offensive element during his debut campaign in a double match in Basel. In 2008, he scored twice in a 4-1 victory over the team rival, FC Zurich, held at the Letzigrund. In 2010, he moved to Germany and its Bundesliga, signing with Hannover 96 and making his debut on the 21st, though he had to retire injured post three minutes in 2-1 home victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
With Benfica, he won the Portuguese League in 2004-05 and the Portuguese Supercup in 2005. Whilst with Vitória Setúbal, he was the runner up at the Portuguese Cup in 2005-06 and the Portuguese Supercup in 2006. Carlos won the Swiss League in 2007-08 and in 2009-10 with Basel team other than the Swiss Cup in 2007-08 and in 2009-10.
