Oriol Romeu is a young Spanish football player who currently features for the English and European giants Chelsea. He plays as a defensive midfielder and is considered as one of the most promising young players in his position.
Romeu developed at Barcelona’s youth academy at La Masia and played for the B team between 2009 and 2011, scoring one goal in 45 league appearances. He played for the Barcelona first team against Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga on May 15, 2011 in a game that ended in a goalless draw.
Romeu’s performance and reputation saw Chelsea come calling and signed him on a four-year contract in August 2011 for €5 million, with Barcelona having the first refusal via a buy-back option should Chelsea deem him surplus to requirements, seeing Barcelona pay €10 million in 2012 or €15 million in 2013 to bring him back to the Camp Nou.
