Mario Suarez Mata is a Spanish football player who currently features for the Spanish football club Atletico Madrid. He plays as a defensive midfielder.
Suarez developed at Atletico’s youth academy and playe for the B team between 2004 and 2006. He made his debut for the first team on November 6, 2005 in a goalless draw against Sevilla in Seville in a 0-0 draw. He went on to make three more appearances in La Liga for the Rojiblancos before being farmed out on loan to Real Valladolid and Celta de Vigo in the next two seasons.
In 2008 Real Mallorca signed Suarez on a four-year deal. He gelled at the Islanders, scoring five goals in 60 league appearances in the following two seasons and earned a return to Atletico in 2010. He has since established himself as a key player for the Madrid club and has won the Europa League in 2011-12 and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010 and 2012.
Suarez has represented Spain at the Under-16, Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels.
