Ihor Ivanovych (sometimes Ivanovich) Belanov is a former football striker from Ukraine. Born on September 25, 1960 in Odessa, Soviet Union, Belanov was once named the European Football player of the Year in 1986, and he is best known for playing with the USSR national team, as well as for being a part of many major football clubs in his area.

Initially, Belanov played in his country under SKA Odessa, FC Dyamo Kyiv, and FC Chornomorets. During those years, Belanov was able to aid the team into winning the 1986 UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and after a long while of playing football, he was given a chance to join the Western European side.

Belanov then travelled to Germany and signed with Borussia Monchengladbach, and soon made his debut with the German club on November 4, 1989. Unfortunately, he failed to impress the club and managed to net only four times during his half season stint. As a result, Belanov transferred to Eintracht Braunschweig sometime in January 1991.

A month later, Belanov made his debut for his new club, and soon went on to score 13 goals in the second division. Four years later, Belanov went back to his home and played with the Chernomorets for one season. He then retired after playing in a few games with FC Illychivets Mariupol.

Throughout his career, Belanov played with a number of clubs including SKA Odessa, Chronomorets Odessa, Dynamo Kyiv, Borussia M’gladbach, Eintracht Braunschweig, and Metalurh Mariupol. He also played for the USSR national team from 1985 to 1990 and appeared in 33 matches for his country, scoring 8 goals.
