The Israeli Premier League, also known as the Ligat Toto, is the top division in the football league in the Israeli Premier League. It is comprised of 16 teams.
The Israeli Premier League were founded in 1999 and replaced the Liga Leumit which then became the second division in Israeli football. The league is organized by the Israel Football Association.
At the end of the season the team that collects the maximum number of points wins the league that seaason. The bottom two sides are relegated to the Liga Leumit and are replaced by the top two clubs of that division.
The Israeli Premier League has been sponsored by the Toto Organization since 2005 and the matches are broadcasted live on Sport 1 and Sport 2 channels except the biggest match of the week which is broadcasted by Israel 10 network television on Monday nights.
