Spanish and European powerhouse Real Madrid are set to announce the signing of Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from German Bundesliga SV Hamburg and the welcoming party has already began.
Hamburg have accepted Real’s 10 million euro bid for the player and the paperwork shall be finalized next week. Real’s Dutch star Wesley Sneijder was the main player in the deal as it was he who first confirmed that Van der Vaart himself is interested in the Real move.
The two players are great friends from their time at Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam and Sneijder is certain that Van der Vaart shall be a huge addition to an already impressive Real Madrid squad. He chooses to focus on Vander Vaart’s versatility:
“It would be great to play again alongside him at Madrid.
“He can play in the middle or in the same role that Raúl has been playing behind the striker. I think he is also comfortable in the two central midfield positions too.
“Having a player so versatile would be great in a season that will not doubt be very long and see some injuries.”
