England v Norway international friendly 2014: Can Rooney guide England to a win?

The first round on international friendlies post he FIFA World Cup 2014 are set to take off. England will take Norway at the Wembley Stadium, London on September 3, 2014. Kick-off is scheduled at 2000 hours BST.

Roy Hodgson’s men will be looking for redemption after returning from the World Cup without a single win under their belt. What make matters worse for England is that Frank Lampard and Captain Steven Gerrard have announced their retirement from international football.

Wayne Rooney has been named as the England captain and will wear the armband for the first time on September 3rd.

With Hodgson naming a few uncapped payers in his squad, he is looking to give a few fresh faces the chance to shine at the national level as he sets up a youthful squad going into the qualifiers of Euro 2016.

Jack Colback, Fabian Delph, Danny Rose and Calum Chambers are refresh faces who have been given a call-up to then national squad. Hodgson will be hoping that players can restore faith in the fans by giving it their all in this game.

This new revamped English side definitely lacks experience with Rooney the only player that has more than 50 caps.

Norway is also going through a phase of restructuring of their own. Per-Mathias Hogmo, Norway’s manager will be hoping to beat England at Wembley which will help his plyers gain confidence before they play the Euro qualifier against Italy later in the week.

These two countries have played each other a total of 11 times with England coming out on top six times, drawing thrice and losing just twice.

Norway will be playing England at Wembley in London for the first time in over 20 years.

Prediction: England 2-0 Norway
