Already relegated Reading will host 2nd placed Manchester City at the Madejski Stadium in Reading for the penultimate matches of the Barclays English Premier League on Tuesday night.
A down and out Manchester City, coming back from a shock defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final on Saturday, and an added loss of Roberto Mancini as their manager, who was sacked earlier this morning, will look to bounce back in this match and end their season on a high note.
They will be under the tutelage of Mancini’s assistant Brian Kidd for the final two games of this season.
City will also be without the services of defender Pablo Zabaleta who was sent off during Saturday’s final and Scott Sinclair whose shoulder blood clot has not healed entirely. The Citizens only need 1 point from their last 2 games to ensure that they finish at the 2nd spot in the league.
Reading will have almost their entire squad at their disposal for this encounter, with the possible exception of Kebe and Roberts.
However, good news for the Royals has come in the form of news that their 21-year old midfielder Hope Akpan, who has missed the last 4 matches of the team due to an ankle injury, could be fit in time for this game.
Reading only need 1 point from their last 2 games to ensure that they do not finish last in the Premier League this season. However, that will be slight consolation for the home side who were relegated to the Championship almost a month ago.
