Late drama at Old Trafford on Sunday saw Chelsea snatch a 1-0 win against the champions Manchester United. With this win, Chelsea[[ are perfectly on course to secure a top four place in the Premier League.
In a scrappy first half, neither team could break open the defence of the other team.
Oscar came close to scoring but his fine effort was saved by United goalkeeper Lindegaard. United seemed to come alive near to the end of the half when fluid movements all around the park allowed star striker Robin van Persie to have two shots at goal.
However, neither of those two created much trouble for the Chelsea back four.
Second half started much the same way, with Chelsea pressing more and more. However, the final balls by both the teams being wayward.
However, the luck of the Blues changed in the 87th minute when Chelsea’s Spanish playmaker [[Juan Mata</a> received the ball from Oscar and shot across the goalkeeper.
The ball went in with a little help from United defender Phil Jones to give the Blues a 1-0 lead, almost securing the 3 important points.
Controversy followed moments later when defender Rafael de Silva tackled Chelsea’s Davil Luiz from behind and received a red card for arguing with the referee.
Chelsea will next play host to neighbours Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, in a match which will most likely be the decider of the Champions League places, three points above them in the table.
Arsenal are currently in the fourth spot, one point behind Chelsea and having played a match more than them.
With this loss, United have failed to win the second match in a row since being crowned the Champions of the Barclays English Premier League.
