It is Champions League action again and Jens Keller’s side German outfit FC Schalke that beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the domestic league on Saturday enters this game with a precious away goal against the Turkish champions Galatasaray.
The game between FC Schalke and Galatasaray will be played on March 12, 2013 at the Veltinis Arena at 1945 GMT.
Schalke’s crowd and players will be feeling quite confident going into this home game with an away goal, meaning a goalless draw is enough for them to secure progression.
The major concern for Schalke is the injury to Dutch forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who was taken off on a stretcher against Borussia Dortmund. He suffered a massive blow to the knee. In his place, Teemu Pukki should start at the forefront of the attack. Ciprian Marica and Raffael are both unavailable as they are cup-tied.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos rom Greece remains side-lined due to injury, while the young and talented Sead Kolasinac could be given a starting berth ahead of Christian Fuchs in the left-back spot. Winger Ibrahim Afellay who is on loan from Barcelona is still recuperating from a thigh injury.
On the other hand, Galatasaray will welcome ex-Chelsea forward Didier Drogba back into the starting line-up. He was a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Genclerbirligi over the weekend, a match for him to forget as he missed a penalty.
Tomas Ujfalusi remains injured and hence Danny Nounkeu will play in the heart of the defence.
Either one of Sabri Sarioglu or Emmanuel Eboue will play in the right-back position.
