Switzerland’s FC Basel will entertain Zenit St. Petersburg from Russia at the St. Jakob-Park on March 7, 2013 at 20.05 GMT for the first leg of the round of 16 in the Europa League.

This match will prove to be a tight fixture as both the teams will enter this game in fine form. FC Basel has not lost any of their last six games while Zenit St. Petersburg will be high in confidence after their victory over English giants Liverpool.

Zenit St. Petersburg’s Brazilian striker Hulk, has been in fine form after netting twice in as many games and will look to use his speed and agility to score an all-important away game in this fixture, just the way he did against Liverpool.

FC Basel’s Marco Steller has been getting in behind defence’s on a regular basis and will be a major threat to Zenit’s defence.

Mohamed Salah has been right on the button in midfield, holding the game when needed and leading the team in attack. He has amassed three assists in the Europa League so far.

Both the goal keepers have been solid in goal with Yann Sommer of FC Basel and Zenit St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Malafeev making over ten saves each in the Europa league thus far. Malafeev’s only weak point exploited by opponents is set plays, and Murat Yakin manager of Basel will certainly be aware of that.

Expected Line-ups: FC Basel: Yann Sommer, Park Joo Ho, Philipp Degen, Arlind Ajeti, Aleksandar Dragovic, David Degen, Serey Die, Gilles Yapi, Valentin Stocker, Simon Grether, Marco Streller

Zenit St. Petersburg: Malafeev, Anyukov, Neto, Lombaerts, Hubocan, Witsel, Denisov, Shirokov, Danny, Hulk, Semak

Prediction: FC Basel 1-1 Zenit St. Petersburg

Yes, the game was simply great. Both teams plyead well. The Russians did a great job organizing the game; and the fans seem to had a good time from all what I read. This is one of those few football games that can be called ideal in every way.
