The Italian football federation has decided to do away with the national team head coach Roberto Donadoni, according to a report by the BBC. The BBC claims that FIGC has decided to terminate Donadoni’s contract with immediate effect, although no official announcement has been made yet.
But this is hardly something unexpected. In the aftermath of Italy’s defeat to Spain in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, the Italian media collectively campaigned for the sacking of the former Italian international striker now of course the coach of the national side.
Donadoni took over from Marcelo Lippi at the end of the 2006 Germany World Cup which of course the Azzurri won under the guidance of Marcelo. It is a common consensus that Lippi shuld be brought back and lead the Italians to the 2010 Germany World Cup.
the FIGC though have not yet make any official declaration but you can well understand why. After all, it was they who appointed Donadoni in the first place against the popular notion and now they have been made to look like clowns!
