It’s time for another installment of Sports Pundit’s weekly transfer update with a number of top European clubs making moves for quality players this week.
English Premier League
It’s been another busy week of transfer activity at Liverpool who made another English acquisition in the shape of Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing. He wasn’t alone in penning a Reds deal this week though, with Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni joining too. Heading in the other direction is Paul Konchesky who Liverpool have sold to Leicester City.
Arsenal have also invested in the transfer market this week with the acquisition of Ivory Coast talent Gervinho who had a major role to play in Lille’s Ligue 1 success last term.
Newly-promoted QPR swooped for two quality players on free transfers in Jay Bothroyd and Kieron Dyer
Mick McCarthy’s Wolverhampton are looking strengthen after avoiding the drop last term and they’ve added impressive Birmingham defender Roger Johnson, while they’ve sold Greg Halford to Portsmouth too. Fulham have swooped for Roma’s ex-Liverpool man John Arne Riise too.

Villarreal have officially offloaded American international striker Jozy Altidore who has joined Dutch club AZ Alkmaar. Meanwhile, newly-promoted Real Betis have signed defender Antonio Amaya from Wigan on a free transfer after spending last term at Rayo Vallecano.

Italian Serie A
Italian giants Internazionale have added to their squad with the signing of Brazilian right-back Jonathan for an undisclosed fee from Santos.
Elsewhere it’s been a busy week in Rome, with Lazio signing French striker Djibril Cisse from Panathinaikos for approximately €5.8m. Lithuanian defender Marius Stankevicius also joins from Sampdoria, having spent last term on loan at Valencia and Lazio have also signed midfielder Lorik Cana from Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, John Arne Riise has left AS Roma for Fulham, while Doni has gone to Liverpool too. However, it’s not all bad for Roma, with teenage Argentine attacking midfielder Erik Lamela agreeing to join the club from River Plate.
Last season’s surprise packets Udinese have lost two key players this week, in Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler who has joined Napoli for a whopping reported fee of €15m along with defender Cristian Zapata who has headed to Villarreal.
Napoli haven’t only signed Inler this week, with the addition of Argentine Mario Santana from Fiorentina on a free transfer. The Naples outfit have also boosted their ranks with Uruguayan defender Miguel Britos joining from Bologna.

German giants Bayern Munich finally got their man after a long chase when they completed a deal for Manchester City’s German defender Jerome Boateng for €14m. Bayern also finalised their deal for Tranmere’s Dale Jennings.
VfB Stuttgart have confirmed the signing of PSV Eindhoven’s Mexican central defender Francisco Rodriguez Maza. They have also let Romanian striker Ciprian Marica depart the club.
Long-term Hamburg SV goalkeeper Frank Rost completed his free transfer switch to New York Red Bulls, while Alex Silva joined Flamengo. Elsewhere, VfL Wolfsburg signed Marco Russ from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Other top clubs
FC Porto have moved to ward off rival clubs keen on their Colombian striker Radamel Falcao after he extending his current deal, by signing a four-year contract.
Belgian champions Genk have sold goalkeeper Thibault Courtois to Chelsea for €9m.
