Defender Supreme Paolo Maldini has been playing since 1985 and it seems that he is looking forward his evergreen-ness to one more year. The 40-year old veteran AC Milan defender, who has been at one club all his life (and with one woman all his life too) has decided to postpone his retirement from football until the end of the 2008-2009 season.
Maldini was slated to retire at the end of the 2007-2008 season but the former Italian defender decided to test his mettle for one more year. A statement on the official website of AC Milan read as follows:
“Paolo Maldini has extended his deal with Milan until 30 June 2009.
“By the time he ends his career, he will have enjoyed 41 unique years of great success with one passion and one colour.”
Maldini then shall play on for Milan until he is 41 years old, which should make him the oldest player in Europe still playing at the highest level.
