Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is considering leaving Premier League side Liverpool in the summer to boost his chances of featuring for the Brazilian national side, according to latest reports.
Lucas has been unable to play regular for Liverpool this season as the defensive midfielder has not been able to compete with Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. It has now emerged that if the situation continues, then the player might decide to leave the club at the end of the season.
Setanta Sports News quotes the player as saying:
“I consider that I play a lot, but the internal competition is very high. The situation doesn’t worry me right now because my objective has always been to be playing in order to be back with the national team.
“Once the season is over I will see what the best option is for me. Everybody wants to be playing in the World Cup and I will push to have this chance.
“You have to play all the time if you want to be called up.”
