FC Barcelona clash with Manchester United in the first leg of their semi-final tie in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night and surprisingly there have been voices of support for the Catalan giants from the Madrid camp.
Real Madrid personnel have been coming out one by one and conveying their support for Barcelona as they strive to win the Champions League for only the third time in their entire history. The liked of Guti, Pepe and Raul have already said that they want Barca to progress to the final in Moscow next month at the expense of Man United and this time the Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster and midfielder Wesley Sneijder have voiced their support.
Sneijder confesses that he supported Barcelona as a boy and want them to win the Champions League this season now that Real themselves cannot do so. He says:
“I want Barcelona to win the Champions League as they were always my favourite team when I was younger.”
Schuster too conveys similar feelings. He was actually a player at Barca (as well at Real) and admits that he still possesses affection for his old club:
“Something has stayed with me from my time at Barcelona and I know that they are having a difficult year.”
This is indeed something strange: Real Madrid supporting their archrivals Barcelona!
