Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi says his side deserve to enjoy their Supercoppa triumph after downing AC Milan 3-0 to lift the first piece of silverware this Italian season.

The Nerazzurri triumphed in Riyadh with goals from Federico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez.

Inter’s triumph comes with a Serie A league clash with Empoli coming up on Monday, followed by another game against Cremonese.

Inzaghi’s side are contending for the Scudetto but sit fourth, with leaders Napoli nine points clear, while they’ll resume their UEFA Champions League campaign next month against FC Porto.

“Clearly it is very pleasing to have won the trophy against a quality opponent,” Inzaghi said.

“It’s right that we celebrate tonight, then from tomorrow we can start thinking about the next games.

“We thank the club, our families and those lads who helped to get us here by winning the Coppa Italia last season.

“We are now getting accustomed to nights like this, there was a bit of extra spice because it was rare for a derby to also be a final, Inter had lost twice in the last 70 years. I told the team we had to turn that trends around.

“I am super proud of the lads and my staff. We’ve achieved incredible things and will continue to do so in future.”

When pressed on the result being alift for Inter’s Serie A title prospects, with Napoli well clear ahead of AC Milan, Juventus and then the Nerazzurri, Inzaghi deflected the question.

“We need to enjoy this, as winning in a Final against Milan this way is just wonderful,” he said.
