Newcastle Keen To Hang Onto Michael Owen

Michael Owen is once again back into his old form and is scoring goals for fun as he used to when he was at Liverpool. The England international striker scored both goals as his club Newcastle United raced to a 2-1 win over Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday in the Premiership.

So much so that there are rumours that Owen will leave St. James’ Park in the summer. Premiership rivals Manchester City are expected to bid for the player in the summer but Newcastle owner Mike Ashley wants the player to stay on at Newcatle.

So does Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan, who says:

“As we have said all along, we are obviously keen for Michael to stay.

“He’s a fabulous player and he showed that again.

“Now we are looking forward to sitting down with his team and working out an agreement for him to stay at Newcastle United.”

Keegan made Owen the skipper as soon as he took charge of the Geordies in January and in the past couple of months, the former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker has reinvented himself with marvelous effect. Owne has now scored 5 goals in his last 5 Premier League matches and Newcastle are considering offering the former Ballon d’Or winner a staggering 130,000 pound a week salary to secure his services in the long run.
