Catalan sports daily Sport has reported that Barca president Joan Laporta wants to sign the 20-year Argentine international sensation in the summer of 2009 to leave behind his own legacy at Camp Nou.
Laporta became the president of the club in 2003 and his tenure at the club would be over in 2010. It has been reported that Laporta is eager to sign a top draw player in the summer of 2009 so as to leave behind a legacy at the club.
Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi all started playing during the Laporat era but while Ronnie arrived to Barcelona because of his conducive relationship with former Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell, Messi is a product of Barcelona’s youth system.
Eto’o, on the other hand, could leave Camp Nou in the next two years, which implies Laporta would not have big name players staying on and sustaining his legacy.
But prising Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid would be tough. The player himself has promised to play for Atleti as long as he is in Europe and also has a supposed price tag of 60 million euros on him.
