Romelu Lukaku is set to return to former club Inter Milan after less than 12 months at Chelsea.

The 29-year-old Belgian forward has had an unhappy time back at Stamford Bridge after moving from the Nerazzurri in August last year.

Lukaku netted 15 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions, with only eight coming in the Premier League, and made no secret of his desire to return to Inter, where he won the Scudetto in 2021.

The two clubs are understood to be preparing the paperwork to complete a loan deal from Chelsea to Inter imminently, reports Fabrizio Romano.

It is believed the initial loan fee is around million euros plus add-ons, with Chelsea content to accept that amid an ongoing transfer saga.

The Blues had spent a reported club record fee of 97.5 million pounds to land Lukaku in August last year.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was eager for Lukaku to exit the club after publicly declaring in December his regret about leaving Inter.

Lukaku was forced to apologise for those comments but the situation never improved for either party, with the forward’s output proving underwhelming.
