The penultimate gameweek of the Fantasy Premier League season brings 12 matches, with five clubs on doubles and Manchester United having a bye.

It may be the final time to use your free hit chip, with the clubs on the double, being Everton, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley and Leicester City.

Previous week lessons

The big lesson from Gameweek 36 was the importance of owning Manchester City players as they home in on the title, crushing Wolverhampton 5-1 and Newcastle 5-0. Kevin De Bruyne was the standout with four goals, equaling 24 points against Wolves, and 30 all up for the gameweek.

Raheem Sterling was second top scorer for the gameweek with 28 points, with City defender Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte (both 14) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (13) all scored well.

Of course, if you’ve got a free hit chips remaining, it’s time to use it so the City players - not on the double - become less attractive but don’t underestimate their value at this time of the season against West Ham this gameweek.

New Options

Romelu Lukaku has found some form with three goals across the two games in the previous gameweek, totaling 19 points, while Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has been a shrewd addition.

Looking at players on the double, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha has managed seven goals and 63 points from his past 10 appearances.

Leicester pair James Maddison and Jamie Vardy are attractive, with the latter fit again and scoring twice last game in their 3-0 win over Norwich City.

Consider Everton goalkeeper [[Jordan Pickford] who has been in spectacular form amid their relegation battle, with 22 points across the past three gameweeks, including 12 from saves alone. Everton teammate Richarlison and Aston Villa defender Matty Cash have been popular trade-ins too.

Who to captain?

The aforementioned players on the double are intriguing as there’s none of the out-and-out typical captaincy choices like Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-Min or De Bruyne.

Maddison arguably tops the list of players on the double, given he has scored 143 points across the season, including eight in Leicester’s last game after missing two. The Foxes’ European commitments are over too, so he’s unlikely to be rested. Leicester face Watford and Chelsea away in their double.

But it will be hard to look past De Bruyne on current form, with City going to West Ham. Salah’s Liverpool go to Southampton after Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Spurs have plenty to play for, with a top-four spot on the line when they host Burnley on Sunday, where Son looms large after 39 points from their past three games.

Highly-owned Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis has a knee injury, with a return date not yet known, likewise Wolverhampton’s Romain Saiss.

City defender Ruben Dias has been ruled out for the season due to injury, while doubts linger on West Ham’s Said Benrahma and Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes with ankle and muscle issues respectively.

Villa’s Ollie Watkins is on the double but isn’t a certainty to start, due to an ankle/foot injury which will require a fitness test.
